Food you do not like.

Postby Workingman » 18 Aug 2020, 18:30

On the Monday tea thread Ria mentioned red wine and that got me to thinking.

I dislike red wine with a vengeance, I mean I really, really do not like it and will not drink it, but it is not the only thing. I am not a fan of. Raspberries, strawberries, blueberries,. bananas (though I do buy them), and avocados - especially avocados - they are not on my shopping list.

Away from fruit I don't like milk chocolate or choccy bars and am not that keen on cake or biscuits. And when it comes to cheese if it is softer, crumblier and smellier than Cheddar it is likely to make be gip - the runny stuff definitely would.

Apart from those I'll just about eat anything.

You?

I have a few food allergies, but that's different really - I like them, they just don't like me! ;) :cute:

There are very few foods I actually dislike, but beetroot is one, and I really can't stomach any offal since we were made to eat big slabs of tough liver for school dinners :x :(

Fish. Any fish.

Although I have been known to eat tuna, tinned and fresh.

And fish from the chippy ;)

Aubergines or egg plant as the Americans call it, yuk, yuk, yuk
Shell fish
Peanuts
Blue cheese
Red meat that looks like it could get up and run round the plate

I'm sure there are more, but these sprang to mind immediately

Oh yes, thanks Jen, I was just thinking of aubergine. love mousakka, hate aubergine

Milk. I really dislike ilk. When I was a lot younger, we had milk delivered to the school and it came in bottles. One really bad winter, the bottles arrived frozen, so were put in front of the wood heater, and, as milk monitor that week, I had to hand it round.

I actually threw up

I t was hot, cold, tepid and icy, all in one bottle.

I stull remember it :o  gaggy, horrid taste.

Absolutely +1

Battered fish with chips yes, canned tuna yes, cod cakes in breadcrumbs yes, prawn cocktail yes ..... but any other fish a RESOUNDING NO! Possibly phobia-based after getting a fishbone stuck in my throat as a kid.

I'm not that keen on fresh fruit, to be honest - raspberries, strawberries, loganberries, plums, so on. I'd much rather have then as a jam. Also I'm not really a dessert person ... :?

And I've never really liked pasta :P , but I can tolerate it these days. Largely because Mrs O insists on force-feeding it to me ...

Fab post Frank :) Makes me giggle that most of what everyone dislikes I reallly love - spouts, avocado, pasta, aubergine; all super yummy. There are a few foods I'm not overly keen on but I'd eat without a problem if I was served them by someone who didn't know and had cooked me a meal.

But raw celery I'll pick out a salad, and same with parsley. And bony fish like sardines etc. Oh and fruitcake - you know the typical British Christmas fruit cake / German Stollen kind of thing. Lordy me, I just want to gag. It's the orange and lemon peel, marzipan mix etc that's just grim.

Then there is one food group I've never tried so actually don't know if I'd like them or not, but just the thought of them is enough to make me go green - offal

Another beetroot hater here, and those small baby sweetcorn. I like sweetcorn and I like corn on the cob, but those baby ones. Its a texture thing with me too, I am not keen on raw carrot, water chestnuts and celery. When you eat it, it doesn't munch down, it just gets into smaller and smaller hard little bits, makes me shudder.

Drink wise don't like gin and don't like Prosecco, both the drink of the moment too.
