I am having a big clear out in preparation for a move to another flat, hopefully in the coming months. It is not in any way a coronavirus thing just a much needed de-junk exercise.

I have so far gathered together some rarely used 'impulse purchased' kitchen gadgets, very god condition pots and pans, a couple of 4-berth tents and other camping gear, some worn once and washed clothes, electric bits and bobs such as radios and mp3 players.

I have asked around family and friends and of the four who have done it it's currently 50:50 "Don't be daft" or "Go for it".

Any thoughts, especially from anyone who has run a stall or can pick the brains of someone who has, would be much appreciated.

following with interest as I am about to do the same. I'm going on Sunday for the first time every, going with a neighbour who does them regularly.

The impression I get is that you need to be very sensible with your pricing; so even though you can probably get about £5 on a for sale site, at a car boot you'd get about £3.

But would be very interested to hear from others

Ria, are you going as a customer / browser or to run a stall?

I have only ever visited one and it was mostly tat. However, I do know of people who visit regularly and make a "day out" of their trips. Unfortunately they all tend to be buyers and not sellers.

It is the stall-holding side that I am concerned about. I am not that bothered about haggling or the money received, I just want to get rid.

I'm going to sell.... same as you've I've decluttered so want to see if I can sell anything before I take it to (already overflowing) charity shops

What Emily and I are doing is pack the car, she has a pasting table (is that what you call them?) and then you lay things out on there or on a blanket on the floor. Our local car boot is £15 per car and you need to be there for 7.30am to set up - no need to book a slot. Gates then open a bit later and it's all done by 11 if not earlier

I have a couple of trestle tables to put things on and some poke-about boxes which, with a bit of luck, I could also sell.

I've done a few and I really enjoy it, and I always manage to make a few bob. But be prepared to be tough with the hoards that are trying to get stuff out before you've unpacked, just tell them to go away and come back when you have set up. Be realistic, you do end up selling cheap, but for the first hour decide on your prices and stick to them, its easy to let stuff go cheaply but dont do that too early. I always have an 'Everything must go' sign that I stick on the front of the table about an hour before the end and basically just sell for pennies and if you really dont want to take stuff home, throw something extra in, and do a BoGOF.

Its fun, just dont take it seriously and dont get cross about the 'want something for nothing' brigade, thats why they are there

Thanks Shell. I have taken all that on board but am still undecided. Most peeps on VV don't seem to be big fans either way.

Love a good mooch at a car boot. None up here, apart from a really rubbish one nearly an hours drive away, but we use to go the one in Fuzeta every month.
