The Amazon Prime scam.

I know that many of you use it so please take note.

I have received a landline phone call telling me that my Amazon Prime account is to be updated at a cost of £79.99 and to press...... you get the drift.

As I don't have a Prime account I just dropped the call.

According to Action Fraud you should not press any number or engage in any way with this scam, simply go directly to Amazon Prime via a known Internet address and login to your account to check its status then work from there.

Apparently just putting the phone down does not kill the call.... so a few tips from around the web. Pick your phone back up and try to ring a random number, a local shop etc - do not phone your own mobile or any family and friends. If you get answered just apologise and say you got a wrong number. Then use your mobile to phone your own landline and say "Hello" to yourself. Both methods should kill the scam call if it is still open.

thanks for that Frank, esp the bit about the line potentially still being 'open'. Didn't realise that happens

Yes, thanks indeed. I knew that certain scams did keep the line open, but I wasn't aware of the methods to "kill" it - so your post's very welcome.
