Can someone please explain to me why supermarkets
Are restricted sales of none
essentials goods
What if I need a kettle or new sauce pan
Or Xmas gifts??

Makes no sense Saundra. Our kettle is on it's last legs, the switch often won't stay own. So if I wanted to buy a new one, I couldn't, so would have to boil water in a pan.

He says that it is to be "fair" to the small independent hardware stores or clothes shops that he has ordered to close. To allow the supermarkets to sell items which the small shops can't sell would appear to be hypocritical - that's his argument.

And the answer to your question, Saundra, is that if your kettle goes and you're desperate - you have no choice but to buy from Amazon. So both High Street stores and supermarkets lose.

Blimey, that's daft! If a shop is open you should be able to buy anything in there How tiresome!

As a standalone argument that is fine, but it does raise a few questions:
1. Why were the independent shops selling these goods closed in the first place - they are not exactly hotbeds of social mixing?
2. Who decides what is non-essential in these dangerous times?

Absolutely bonkers. As you say Ossie, people will just go online where you can buy pretty much anything you need. A great help for all the small shops he's supposed to be protecting!!

They will go on Amazon, and the profits will go to Jeff Bezos rather than UK companies!

This was the argument of a lot of smaller shops in Germany when lock-down first started with the results that the smaller shops were allowed to open a lot sooner than was originally planned. And I get where they are coming from, either the items can't be sold or they can - doesn't matter who sells them does it? And as you've said - the only winner at the end of this is a large off-shore company that doesn't pay (much if any) UK taxes.
