Waiting waiting...and more waiting.

We had a new sofa and chair a couple of weeks ago for the downstairs living room so I rang the local hospice charity about donating the old ones to their furniture store. The woman I spoke to was really pleased, said they’re getting plenty of clothing and bric a brac but not much in the way of furniture and they have stand alone shops for that. She arranged for it to be collected on Thursday.

I waiting around until they came at 1pm and they wouldn’t take it because it’s very lightly faded on one arm where the sun had hit it in the window. As soon as we’d noticed it starting to happen I put a throw over the arm so that it didn’t get any worse. Apart from that it’s solid and clean. They advertise that a suite can raise £350 so surely if they priced it at £50 it’s money going towards their cause, but no, it wasn’t showroom quality so they didn’t want it (which is probably why they haven’t got much in the way of furniture being donated if they drivers are being so picky).

I put it on the local free page on Facebook and a man said he wanted it and could he collect it Saturday morning. I gave him the address and he messaged me at 9am to say that he was waiting for someone to bring him a van. I replied suggesting the best place to park when he gets here. It’s gone 1.30 now and that was the last I heard from him.

We planned to go to a garden centre today but obviously we had to wait in for him to not turn up this morning and because Amazon sent the parcel that they guaranteed to deliver yesterday to the wrong part of the country and didn’t notify me until late afternoon, that’s now being delivered this afternoon between 2.15 and 5.15, so that’s the whole day written off waiting

Frustrating, isn't it? Like the utilities (water) who gave me a slot between 07:00 and 12:00 with the promise of a call about an hour before they would arrive. On the day there was a knock on the door at about 10:00.... no call.

.makes my blood boil jo
A good few years ago a part of hull flooded and there was an appeal for furniture
So I offered 2matching chairs
They turned them down because people wanted sofas
So I put them on a selling site and they went the same day

My friend is currently having the same issue, Jo, with her old sofas! In the end her husband broke them up - such a shame :(xxx

When we moved into this house I bought a new oak dining table and chairs to replace the old pine set I had - it was in absolutely perfect condition apart from a couple of puppy toothmarks on one claw foot of the table. I tried every charity in town, but because of that nobody would take them  In the end I put them on Freecycle and they were snapped up by a VERY grateful young couple in the same day I put the ad on! Ridiculous for charities to be so picky!

Don't any of you have rehousing charities near you? I have found them a lot more accepting of slight damage than charities selling stuff, and that goes for all sorts of things not just furniture.

I’ve looked but the only ones coming up seem to be in the Stoke area and they don’t list down here as part of the area they cover for donations.

Anyway, I messaged the lady who runs the Facebook site as she’s very hot on people not showing up for things they’ve requested and she replied saying that I’m not the only one who’s told her that this fella was collecting things yesterday and failed to show so she’s now blocked him from the group.
