No, Vic, going past the Pheonix was the "old route" which was blocked off when they built Le Neubourg Way, the town bypass.

To get from the town to Wyke, you have to turn right to go past St. Mary's Church, and follow the road round to the left to emerge on Le Neubourg Way. Turn left onto the ring road then either:
(a) scissor across immediately to the right to access Cemetery Road then Rolls Bridge Way (i.e. go past the old Town Cemetery and the Catholic Church) or
(b) go down Le Neubourg Way to the traffic lights at the bottom of the hill, and use the right hand filter to turn into and go up Wyke Road.

Be wary should you find yourself driving the length of Le Neubourg Way from Newbury roundabout (Railway Bridge) to Wyke Road lights as they've recently put in cycle lanes and it's a complete pig's ear if you're a motorist.
And remember Upper Station Road is now one-way - downhill only - from High Street to the Station Road Garage.
