Food brands or own label (aka your own shouty TV :D )

I generally will always give store own labels a try and 99% of the time I'm as happy with them as I am with the 'branded' equivalent; there really isn't a reason I cannot "Eat well for less". But every so often I come across an item where the own brand just doesn't compare.

Today I am adding store own cheese puffs to that list; no flavour; or rather what flavour there is, is very artificial. Give me proper Wotsits any day.

Two oither items that I will buy only brand are Heinz Baked Beans and Kellogg's Cornflakes

What about you - what food can you just not bear to have replaced by store own?

McVities Digestive biscuits
McVities Jaffa Cakes
Bisto Best gravy granules
PG Tips
Nescafé Azera
Fairy dishwasher tablets
Weetabix

I definitely agree about Wotsits v supermarket dupes. There’s no comparison.

Own brand tea bags???? :? I have to have Tetley decaff! It used to be PG Tips decaff until they changed the formula and tasted like soap  That was a traumatic few days until I tried the Tetley ones   Cornflakes have to be Kelloggs, as own brand never taste right :? I do however buy Sainsbury's bran flakes as they're really nice! I used to buy Warburtons wholemeal bread, but the own brand wholemeal is very good, and less than half the price. I won't skimp on dishwasher tabs, I'm with you there Jo ;)

I have never been a brand addict, but then I do not buy much in the way of pre-cooked or ready meals.

Morrison's baked beans are the deal, as is Asda tomato ketchup - not the smart price or saver versions I must add. For me a peeled plum tomato is a peeled plum tomato and a red kidney bean is a red kidney bean, even in a plain tin. Porridge is porridge.

The only things of which I am brand aware are cleaning stuff - wash-up liquid, laundry washing fluid and conditioner, glass / window cleaners, toilet blocks and so on. All the own brand stuff in those lines has been a fail.

The best baked beans I’ve ever had were Asda baked beans and sausages. Not sure if they’re still the same as I don’t shop there now but the sausages were more meaty than the ones you usually get.

All of that I buy either Aldi or Sainsbury's own because they are cruelty free ;-)

Jo, have you tried Aldi's Nescafé Azera equiavent - not bad at all?
