.... with having all the windows open is how noisy the world is. Traffic, grass cutters, people talking as they walk past, birds, especially those damned collared doves, doors slamming; the list goes on!

Bring on the cold weather so that I can shut everything up and get some peace!

Yes!

On Monday we had two council workers scraping weeds and debris out of the gutters with shovels, they were being followed very slowly by a JCB, they were putting the contents of the shovels into it’s bucket.

Today the council have a pneumatic drill on the go as they replace broken kerbstones.

Keep the warmth out by keeping your windows shut WM! I have one window front and back just open a little, but apart from that, they're all shut.

Totally agree! We are right on the main street and can’t have windows open in the evening or overnight at the front of the house. We have very strident seagulls to add to the mix

Doesn't work Jan, too much south facing glass so need the breeze through. I do gran's old trick, though, of drawing the curtains just leaving a gap at the transoms to let some light in. They do flap a bit so that's more noise. We don't have shutters up here. Windows on the north side are all opened - curtains drawn back - and the doors have wedges to keep them open.

It's much quieter here when the schools are on holiday, as we have a primary school within stone's throw

We've had to sleep with the windows open and you really do notice how much noisier it is when you do that.
Cars, drunks coming home from the pub, pigeons / collared doves /magpies / cats!

I'm super lucky - where I live is relatively quiet anyway, but because my bedroom is one of the few that faces to the back vs the front of the property I don't hear much (if any) noise from my little street. I hear the occasional hum from the A3 that runs about a mile and a bit from where I live; and oddly enough every so often - depending on how the wind blows - I can hear the trains going through Woking (which must be a good 6 or so miles away). But other than that - besides the hedgehogs snuffling, foxes making their typical fox noise and the occasional cats having an altercation the nights are silent. Even during the day it's usually very quiet, well it would be if it weren't for one particular kid in the 'hood that has the most horrendous high pitched piercing screech ever, and boy does he screech a lot whenever things don't go his way.

Oh and in the spring, when the days are getting lighter earlier - 4am the most amazing bird song

I just absolutely love where I live :D :D :D

We have a new housing estate being built a few hundred metres away and the noise from that is horrendous!!! The Mway is only a mile as the crow flies so the noise from that is constant, and we also have a nest of blackbirds in our hedges.....they are noisy beggars!!!
