the empty spaces on supermarket shelves which they blame on a driver shortage - which is very true -----
however it doesn't appear to have affected their booze deliveries ! or getting the back to school stuff

It is very patchy, Vic.

I have used Aldi, Morrisons and Asda over the last two days and the shelves are full. Mind you Asda and Morrisons are HQed in Leeds and Bradford so they might be keeping us sweet. Aldi are just keeping up.

Yes, it is patchy.

Locally:
Iceland seem to be well stocked (although they are complaining about shortages nationally)
Aldi - I haven't really got a feel for the store yet as we've only started shopping there recently, but I breezed through there this afternoon and got everything I wanted - although some stocks were a bit haphazard.
Waitrose - they do seem to be suffering a bit. Certain lines have been missing off the shelves for weeks, like their own brand pitta bread and cosmetics, and today, paper goods - kitchen towels, tissues in particular - were very depleted with an apology notice in the aisle that there were stocking issues.

I'd agree that there's no shortage of booze in both Aldi and Waitrose, Vic, but we're both more or less teetotal!

We have started gently stocking up on a few items, though ..... like toilet rolls .....

Sainsbury's here have quite a few gaps, and a few of my regular buys are missing. Nothing vital, but it is noticeable.

I usually shop at either Aldi or Sainsbury's because they're closest to me. Aldi so far has always had stock of everything; maybe not the particular item I wanted but definitely a fair / equal replacement (ie I buy their coffee strength 5 and they didn't have, but had Italian strength 4). Sainsbury's on the other hand - not a shop gone by recently where something has been missing / shelves empty somewhere. And similar for Morrisons for the few times I've been. Sparkling water being one of the main things

Not stock piling yet Ossie ;-) but always have made sure I have basics in the house anyway
