Dinner tonight

was dire, the worst I've done for many, many years

Steak, chips, garlic mushroom and I used up the leek I had in the fridge with peas.

Chips, mushrooms, peas and leek, with yet more garlic   was lush.

The steak was a world apart

Nice big lump of meat, which I bashed, as they were both fairly hefty.

Tough as 200 year old boots.

No idea what cut it was, the Portuguese normally cut across the grain, but this was really, really bad.

Even the cat struggled

Cheese and biscuits later ;)

LOL, Jan

We are still "using up" after our fridge/freezer went bust at the start of the weekend.
Tonight it was a baked potato each with onions and lardons in a mushroom sauce.

The meat (pork and beef) we had to cook up ran out yesterday. It wasn't too bad, TBH, better than your boots!

We have only thrown out the turkey mince, about 1/4 flagon of milk that went off, some frozen roast potatoes and a bit of frozen veg that defrosted into mush.
Could have been a lot worse.

New fridge/freezer arrives tomorrow, it's a Bosch (£450 all-in). The old one was a Blomberg (an up-market brand of Beko) that only lasted 5 years .....

Ah, the best bit is to have a food fridge, with a small freezer and a separate freezer and then a beer fridge, which also has a small freezer bit at the top.

If the one that was left here dies, I have back up.
