I'd never heard of this before. Apparently it is where holidaymakers to Spain (generally brits and, of course, mainly men), jump off balconies into pools or onto lower roofs.
I only came across this because I heard, today, that the grandson of a friend is in hospital in Spain with brain injury and multiple broken bones. When I tracked down what looks like his injury, I came across the word.
When doing stupid and dangerous things, most people live to grow up and learn that it was stupid and dangerous. Some don't! Sadly.

Darwinian theory comes to mind - keeps the idiots out of the gene pool!
Why on earth do such stupid things?

The article says 21 but he's only 18. Nice lad apparently.
Fortunately his grandparents bought him holiday insurance. He wasn't going to bother.

With some people, when the drink goes in the sense goes out.

I had loads of this kind of stuff in the Army. Constantly wanting me to get drunk and do stupid stuff. I declined to get drunk and I also declined to do stupid stuff.
Then they got offended that I said it was stupid....
I know how it works but I was in my 20's, a father and not interested in their crap.

the poor family, how awful for them. Hope the lad makes as full a recovery as possible - bones will heal in time, but the brain injury is another matter altogether

I've never understood people that travel with no insurance; esp now that the UK has left the EU - if you can afford the holiday then surely you can afford that little bit extra for the insurance

I agree Ria. We need to arrange insurance for our holiday in the Dominican Republic later this year. It's going to cost more after my heart attack. We shall see how much. But it is just not worth it to go without.
On the info side, his brain bleed has stopped and they are talking about getting him out of ICU in 3-4 days. Small mercies. He fell about 3m. Must have been head first, I went through a roof when removing asbestos sheeting in my 20's and landed on my back having fallen a similar distance. Nothing broken although it did give me back problems for about a decade.
