John (Aggers) once posted that he wanted to sell his car but was worried about test drives with strangers and someone just driving away and stealing it or hurting him in some other way. He didn't know what to do as no garage would accept it due to its age. I offered to sell it for him here in Leeds for the price he wanted - nothing less. He accepted.
So, I went down to Solihull to pick up the car, paperwork etc. to bring it home to sell. It was magnificent - pristine - it had only been used to take the dog to the park and weekly shopping trips and I decided there and then to buy it myself. We came to a deal for a few bob more than he wanted and I bought it on the spot.
Aggers was indeed a gentleman of the old school type. We kept in touch via email for a while, but then they stopped and Wendy never replied. He would be 96, I think, this next Christmas, so I fear that he has gone to that car showroom in the sky. Sad but inevitable.
