I’m afraid I have some very sad news to share with you all, about our dear Aggers :(

With his permission I am sharing the PM Frank sent me.

Kaz,

I have had a phone call from Wendy with sad news. John passed away on the 29th of September after long battles with dementia and bladder cancer. Because of all the paperwork wit hthe doctors' and Coroner's reports his funeral will now be on the 26th of October.

The dementia kicked in long before Covid started and his frustration at not being able to express himself clearly led him to stop posting, though he still read our posts. He absolutely loved VV as we were his friends and links to the outside world. Poor thing: he was stuck between the Devil and deep blue sea - he couldn't give us up, yet he could not post and join in. It must have been so frustrating for him.

The bladder cancer was diagnosed a year last June. It came on slowly, at first, and he had six monthly checks on its progress. It all seemed stable for a while until at his last check it had spread to his kidneys and other organs. At that point the doctors said it would only be a short time.... RIP John (Aggers).

This is just so terribly sad, Aggers was so well-loved here, and I hope he knew that. I am sending a card to Wendy from us all, but can PM her address to anyone who would like it.

I was also thinking of sending either a small wreath or flowers, the funeral is on the 26th. If anyone would like to contribute please PM.

Again I am so very sad to have to pass on this very sad news. We’re a little family on here, and it hurts to lose one of us :(

I have felt so sad all morning. :(

In midst of the flurry of messages one thing is very evident.

Aggers was so loved on VV.

One of life's true gentlemen.

RIP John.

I was lucky enough to have met John (and his wife, IIRC) at a couple of the Birmingham Meets.
He was an absolute gentleman, and it was a privilege to have spent some time chatting with him.
Sad news indeed. :(

This is such sad news :( I met Aggers twice in Brum and, yes, he was a true gentleman and Wendy was really lovely. May he rest in peace.

I've just been looking at some Brum meet pics of Aggers.

So glad to have met him and Wendy a couple of times at the meets and then I remembered I met him and Wendy in Littlewoods cafe in November 2012 where he gifted me an Elvis CD that he'd put together with songs he thought I'd like.

Nice memories. X

When their dog died John and Wendy decided to sell their car as it was no longer used, but were worried about selling it privately and allowing test drives - garages would not touch it as it was 57 plate even though it had only 20,000 miles on the clock. I offered to bring it to Leeds and sell it for them and they agreed.

I went down to Solihull to pick it up and when I saw it I paid the asking price myself and bought it on the spot - no haggling. I still have the car.

It is a privilege to have known and met John .The world needs many more people like him. RIP my old friend. Rest well.
