Do you give money to beggars?

Just wondering.
A couple of nights since I dropped into Sainsbury's. Outside there was a woman begging; obviously a junkie, no teeth and as skinny as anything. She wasn't an advert for that way of life, exactly.
I gave her some change.
Is it the right thing to do though? Would you have done it?

I have in the past but no not now
But if I was in a supermarket checkout and saw someone

Because it's not being spent on,drugs

Money? No! However, I have often bought them something to eat (pie or pasty) and a milky drink.

I've done that many times too.

I never give cash; will happily buy food or toiletries etc though.

Years ago in Bedford there was a young chap asking for money outside Tesco.
I asked him if he was hungry as I'd rather get him a meal deal than give money to him.
He was very happy with that....but then proceeded to tell me he'd like some fried chicken from the delhi counter and some fancy dancy drink!
I was gobsmacked.
I wasn't hard hearted enough to tell him to get stuffed but he got the most basic meal deal that day!

Ally beggars here at one time refuse food and drink and want only cash

I asked the man sitting outside Sainsbury if he would like some sandwiches and a drink, he said yes, but not fish and I dont like orange.
I got him ham salad he said thank you, put them in his bag, with about 10 other packets of sandwiches.
That sort of put me off
