and breathe!

my fixed rate mortgage came to and end a week or so ago, so back in May already my mortgage broker was in touch and started looking at new deals and in June I was given a mortgage offer by Barclays, valid until end November. But because of market turmoil etc I've been on tenterhooks and worried that the offer could be withdrawn; the broker said they couldn't but still. Then beginning October Barclays said they'd need to value the property and needed a few more bits and bobs - again making me worried they were looking for a legal reason to withdraw the offer..... but today it's completed; so now have a 10year fixed at 3%. I was very unsure about the 10 year bit, but hey ho - at least it's something I don't have to worry about for a while now and hopefully come 2032 the world will be a more sensible place than it is today (well one can always live in hope :D )

But I'm just glad it's all gone through at what I think is a decent rate

If the rumours are anywhere near correct that 3% rate will look ultra cheap come Friday's BoE statement. Well done you... and Barclay's. xx :D :D :D

When I bought my first house the mortgage rate was 5%. But because I was working for an insurance compnay it was reduced to two and a half per cent.
It remained at that figure even though I moved twice. I even extended this house and still got the low rate. I can rememeber the mortgage interest rate
being 12%.
Paid off the mortgage before I finished working. Have now got the deeds of the house in a fire proof box with the will and other legal documents.

Well done, meriad, that sounds like quite a bargain by current standards.
