Well, that was a different day

 ~~Had an e-mail from our lovely Eduardo, our bank manager, asking us to come in as a matter of urgency.

Ferlippin' heck we thought, what's going on?

Drove over to Castro Verde, we walked in and queue jumped  as Eduardo came out straight away, shaking hands and ushering us into his office. The looks on the queue was a picture - we were royalty!!

Nothing to worry about  - the signatures we'd given a few weeks ago, on a tablet, weren't accepted and he needed us to sign on paper

As we're here, I said, shall we pop into the opticians? Grumpy has a cataract which needs to be sorted and I need new glasses. I thought.

We now have three cataracts between us

Grumpy has 5% sight in his left eye and I have two nice cataracts

As he said, the bad news is you have two cataracts, the good news is that they're not too bad   yet.

We have referral letters and I'm just about to investigate the best places to go. We're going private, as its a lot quicker, so that's 6,000€ that wont be buying the merc  Going the normal nhs route can take over two years.

So we stopped at the bar on the way home and left, four hours later, a little squiffy

But Mitchell got his wood sorted, as I rang him, he came down and saw Jorge, then Gez turned up and we met our new neighbours, who live just up the road, so a pleasant afternoon.

Cancelled the Portuguese lesson, no way could we drive into Ourique and the optician recommended that neither of us drive in the dark. Blasted scary, the thought of losing eye sight.

JanB,
Hope ypur operation for cataracts is successful. I had them removed about four years ago. Not had any problems. I have to put drops in morning , evening
and a different one before I go to bed. This is to stop the pressure bulding up which could affect my eye sight.
I still do not need glasses either for reading or long distance such as driving.
Had a check up recently and everything is normal. Not bad for an 88 year old.
