Another scam...

I just received this email.....

Delivery of Suspended Package!

You have (1) package waiting for delivery. Use your code to track it and receive it
Your Code is:#0464709-WY

CONFIRM (a button)

I have not ordered any goods online so I suspected a scam.

I did a secure check. The CONFIRM button is a link to somewhere in India and when pressed it links to another place in India, but on the dark web. The sender's email address is a spoof.

The email is now deleted. I keep on saying this but if anyone gets something like this DO NOT click any buttons or links or any underlined text in another colour.

Thanks Frank, I’ve opened this immediately after putting the phone down on a BT scam

Well done you two for being on the ball.

Unfortunately even people like me who are 'in the know' can inadvertently do silly things if we are distracted or forgetful. I find that prompting people with real world examples is useful, that's why i do it.

I was reading an article on the BBC about the increase in online and phone scams. Lots of words from the banks on the ways they are trying to stop these things, yet there was not one word, not one, telling the readers the types of scam out there nor what to do if a scam attempt is made.

It drives me nuts.

I a getting emails to say i have there is a parcelwaiting for collection> I have to give my bank details to arrange delivery. Thse have said they are from Argos
and other large organisations. I try to block them and delete them without opening them.
Have also had phone calls from BT saying they are going to fix my broadband problem. Am not with them so just put the phone down.

A friend has had a phone call about British Gas shares. She said she and her husband did have some. Her husband died about ten years ago and she thinks she sold the
shares. She cannot find the shared certificate. She is semsible and said she wanted a letter soshe could study the request. She put the phone down without giving any personal info.

I expect there wil be somenew ones now the coronation has finished.
