Got a leaflet from royal mail today
Old stamps without a bar code can't be used after july31st
You have to send them to a free post address with a form on the leaflet
So that for 6 to send back

Thanks for that Saundra.

I wanted to buy a single stamp when I was in Nottingham last month but could only purchase books of four.

I've just checked the remaining 3 and they have bar codes.

Luckily I can use them next month when I'm over as I have a few birthdays coming up. :cute:

Ally,

I recently only wanted one stamp. This was at the main Post Office in Wigan. Wanted to sell me a book. Bu it I just stood at the counter until the assistant got
a large sheet of stamps and sold me one. He could see I was holding up the queue which had formed.

Because the stamps with the bar code are bigger there are only four in a book. Used to be six. Is this progress?

I (ha ha) thought I could just buy a single stamp to post a single card.

Not so.

Whatever. Had to buy a book of four. I'll use them.

But I do like I can go to my local estanco and buy a stamp.

I do think the UK (in my opinion and don't shoot me down!!) makes and does make things more awkward.

Over here, there is no problem getting a single stamp, the assistant has a machine that issues them. You can buy books of stamps also, but none of this ‘no single stamps” nonsense.

You're absolutely right!!! I always buy my stamps in books anyway, but you used to be able to buy just one, from a big book of sheets of stamps behind the counter - why on earth change it??

I’ve not bought a single stamp since McColls closed in the village just after Christmas, taking the post office with it
I wasn’t aware that there was a move away from buying them from a sheet behind the counter.
