Can I keep the heating off?

Well, at least till the equinox, the real one on Saturday the 23rd. The fake one the weather people use has been and gone.

On Saturday the night-time temps will drop to single figures, so it will be touch and go. I have already got the autumn duvet out and airing ready to go on.

It was 29C here on Sunday. We had two days of thunderstorms and it has cooled a lot but we're going to be cooler till at least Sunday with night time temps around 16C then it is heading back to 29C. We still have the duvet cover on with no duvet.

That being said I'm also working hard to get the new CH boiler (pellets), installed and running as I'll be gone on Saturday or Sunday and won't be back till mid October. Chances are that the temps will drop a long way at night by then and the boiler may be needed.

So I have the pipe cutters and soldering torch out, the concrete platform was made on Saturday and we (#1 son and I as they guy I usually have helping me can't help me totally lift the boiler clear), put the boiler on. I have to go get another adapter for the pipes as I put the sodding vent T connector on the wrong pipe, then I intend to fire it up tomorrow if I can get the last bit of plumbing and wiring done.

The vent pipe which caused the most angst, till I opened it up and got the installation book out, will be the easiest part of all. Go figure.

At least this winter I won't be getting up at 8am to a cold house. Even if it does cost me twice as much to fuel it.

I’ll try and keep our heating switched off until it’s absolutely necessary. Joe’s already been complaining of it being cold tonight yet Tom’s got his bedroom window wide open.

We experimented last Winter with keeping it on all of the time and setting the thermostat on a steady 17°c rather than having the heating coming on and going off at intervals throughout the day and it worked well for us, usage wasn’t any more than before.

Eeek, just looked at the 14 day forecast - yikes, getting nippy!
I'll wait as long as I can but really don't like being cold so will let the heating kick in if needed. I usually only have it set to 18 degrees anyway so not overly warm. But definitely time to get the blankets out and think about getting the electric blanket on the bed

It's wet and blowy here, but not cold yet.

Same here, and looking at the BBC forecast for next week (not sure how reliable) it’s looking like being 19°to 20° and a bit drier from Sunday onwards.
