Jo - Don's nephew had exactly the same operation as you when he was 17.

He was quite poorly with colds and infections for years before but after the op was soon as right as rain. xx

That's encouraging Ally and Di. We tried pushing for Tom to have surgery a few years ago. The consultant at Stafford agreed it should be done and referred him to a haematologist at Birmingham Children's Hospital. He had no qualms about it and gave us an appointment to see the surgeon to discuss the op. He flat out refused to do it. Wouldn't listen to any arguments, and oh boy did I argue, he just said it was too much of a risk and he wasn't prepared to chance it.
At that time he'd been admitted to hospital a few times with what would usually be minor illnesses and was close to needing transfusions, which is the point when surgery usually becomes a cert.
For some reason though Tom doesn't seem to be affected by it as much now. He does get really bad stomach pains though every now and again and landed in hospital overnight last year, tests were inconclusive though so who knows if it's connected.

Thank you Jo, I didn't know that. Encouraging responses from Ally and Di though, and hopefully Joe will be able to have the surgery sooner rather than later.

I wasn't aware either; but as Osc says - encouraging replies from both Ally and Di. Fingers crossed he's able to have an operation sooner rather than later x
