Would it have hurt her to suggest you stick them down and then take them back to her to put them in the bag?

There's a little post office at the back of McColls in the village, the woman's nice enough but she's so flippin' dopey  Behind the counter looks like such a disorganised mess too, if I can I post parcels in the main post office - she piles them on top of the filing cabinet or puts them on the counter to the side of her and I always worry that they'll be missed at collection time.

At the main post office they've got a designated window for passport checking and foreign currency and you have to queue separately, although the window is also used for normal PO business - when they've finished serving their customer you step forward as anything travel related takes priority but you don't half get some filthy looks from the normal queue. :|
