He died at noon today.

When I was about ten dad bought me (him ) a plastic telescope. We would watch Sky at Night on the old 405 line B&W TV and then go out to see if we could find what Moore had been on about.

It was great fun (not) standing out in the garden in my slippers and jim-jams with and eiderdown wrapped around me waiting for "that ***king cloud" to move out of the way.

Sir PM frightened and inspired me. I got into Sciece because of him, I was frightened not to. ;)

Not a nice bloke, apparently, but a great TV presenter. :D

Frank I have to ask why was he not a nice man? Just seen Brian May on tv and he said Sir P was one of the kindest men he'd ever met - always doing things for people..........

So I'm intrigued?

I've always thought he was a lovely man. A bit eccentric, but why not? :)
Mr L and our eldest went to hear him give a talk about 10 years ago. He has always been a favourite in our house. He will be missed.

He was linked with far right political groups in the 50s-80s, but it was kept quiet. That doesn't stop him from being a nice man on a personal level, and there is plenty of evidence that on that score he was a decent and kind man.
