I was reading the other day that central Pacific sea temperatures had risen 3F and were still rising.

There are also indications that this year's El Nino will be one of the strongest on records. What that portends for the UK this winter is anybody's guess, but storms seem more likely than periods of calm, and if the jetstream veers south we could be in for a really cold and wet winter.

Last year the kelvin waves were becoming the strongest recorded, then they dropped back again. This year they are on the rise again.

2015 is breaking heat records again so I don't think that a cold winter is on the cards. Although you can never be sure.

The main product of El Nino, for us, is a slower and less active Atlantic hurricane season. However with SST's climbing the way they are, both in the Atlantic and the Pacific, who knows.

It's interesting that we are entering uncharted territory. They have records going back thousands and, in some circumstances, millions of years, however they can't clearly pinpoint what is happening today. Mainly because in ever prior reconstruction the timeline was in thousands to tens of thousands of years. Not in centuries and decades.

I was doing some awareness training with my Grandson Saturday night. He's becoming more aware of what AGW is and how it will impact not only his long term future, but also his short term employment, given that he's expressed an interest in working on the rigs.

The Siberian High is about to fire up in the next few weeks. A lot will depend on whether it becomes a blocker and also how it will affect the Arctic Osc.

Maybe a bit too far out for predictions, but many are already saying a cold one.

Many started out saying that 2015 was going to be another 2013/14. Those years were affected by extremely specific weather events which blocked melt right about now, 2012 was the opposite where weather kickstarted the melt again.

Smart money is on this current heat being locked in and pushing melting through to mid or late Sept.

Time will tell as always. The Arctic has a way of making fools of those who predict too early. That being said, it also has a way of making fools of anyone who thinks that all the ice is just going to come back in 5 years of cold weather. The heat budget is now way too high and keeps getting bigger every year.
