We have no idea of the allegiances of these "young men" only that they are trying to get here. Many of them will not be "on our side" so training them up to our military standards and sending them back could end up being the worst of all worlds.

What we should be doing is turning them back at the borders, no questions asked, and then making it clear to those who would follow that they will face the same. We need to do it over and over and over till the message sinks in.

Only when we have some method of control will we be able to give some meaningful help to those who deserve it ... Unfortunately there is no political will to take control and that is where fingers should be pointed.

The problem and the reality there Kate is that we'd be training a force which would, most likely, turn against us. Also we'd have a large 5th column. We'd never be able to send them back anyway, so why create a capable fighting force in our own country.

The last thing I'd do is train them. If they want training in Syria, fine.

The other point is that only 25% of these people are Syrians. The vast proportion of the rest of them are North African, Iraqi, Pakistani, Afghani and even Iranian.

You'll look long and hard to find that. They're all labelled Syrian "children". Look beyond the rhetoric. Because you are being played.

They have one goal and one goal only. Get to the UK and use our resources to create their own little community they can't have in their own country because they screwed it up with their belligerence. In the end they'll screw ours up too. They can't see that spreading their intolerance and bigotry around the world is like spreading a disease. Any more than the so called "Christian" armies did after the dark ages.

Can't agree with you this time Kate. We are a Christian country with our own standards and values. It would not be so bad if newcomers were prepared to adapt to our values, but many do not wish to do so and would prefer us to adapt to their values. I think David Cameron was absolutely right when he said help should be directed towards the refugee camps around Syria. I am assuming that those from other lands such as Pakistan and Iraq are economic migrants and not refugees.

I agree with you all in some respects, but then that caring side of me takes over.. I was homeless as a teenager, and was taken in with my daughter by a lady who became like a mother to me, I worked and achieved my successful career through studying. I know the feeling of being abandoned and it is like an empty space with no door to open through which one can find contentment and hope. I agree with the fact that we are allowing criminals and the like into this country, in my opinion the immigration dpt has a lot to answer for. I find it very painful to think of those little ones alone and being abandoned. And I appreciate all those opinions that differ wondering "what is the answer"
