A balanced view is a good thing

And the Mirror view on the bill to trigger A50 is totally unbalanced.

The low point for me was when they gave voice to the statement from Labour MP’s that 3 days was not enough to debate the two sentences when they had been given 24 days to debate the Maastricht treaty.

So let me see. The Maastricht treaty, a document of hundreds if not thousands of sentences (full document no longer available at the EU site so I can’t compare). A treaty which merged all prior European trade treaties. The treaty which created the EU as a country and set the groundwork for the EU foreign service. The treaty which brought into being the Euro as a currency and the ECB as a central bank. A treaty which created the EU justice service, the European HRA, the working time directives and a whole plethora of other things which control our lives to this day.

This got 24 days.

Two sentences got 3 days.

Honestly. If 3 days is not enough time to debate two sentences to control the triggering of the exit of the UK from the EU and return the UK to its known status as it was before it joined the EEC; then 3 years was not enough time to debate the Maastricht treaty.

Do they really realise how utterly stupid they are being?

Oh, FCOL!

The government publishes a two-part bill, as was expected:
(1) The Prime Minister may notify, under Article 50(2) of the Treaty on European Union, the United Kingdom’s intention to withdraw from the EU.

(2) This section has effect despite any provision made by or under the European Communities Act 1972 or any other enactment.

One MP makes mention of the time given to debate this compared to Maastricht.... and this is the story.

Look at it another way. The Maastricht Treaty was huuuge, this bill is two short paragraphs. Given the time to scrutinise each clause the A50 bill should get milliseconds.

Hopefully he'll have been eviscerated to the ends of the earth before anyone comments.

First resignation on Corbyn's front bench over the 3 line whip....

The amusement is hotting up.
