Having seen some Kipper comments on other forums it makes sense to me. I do not for a split second think that UKIP, the party. is racist, but it cannot be denied that it has attracted a few unsavoury characters.

And the UKIP got such a massive influx of party members and candidates they spent more time trying to sort it out, without the control mechanisms of the other parties, than they did formulating policy or heavily campaigning.

Cameron may not have _had_ to give us a referendum. But if he wanted to permanently cripple the threat to the Tories, he needed to. He won't get much credit for that either...
