Cromwell, there are parts of the outer suburbs of Gloucester that come under Stroud District Council  Absolutely loopy! :? Stroud is a good 10 miles away!

The thing about the new boundary changes is that they have to cope with the reduction in the HoC from 650 to 600 constituencies. So while the new constituencies will have an electorate within the 72,000 to 78,000 range, their geographical boundaries will also change, except in four cases where this is not practicable.

A bit of collective pain to rid us of 50 MPs has to be worth it. I would be prepared to suffer a lot more to get the HoC down to 300 and the HoL to 250 max. ;)

The proposed boundary changes are a bit controversial here as well! They want to form a new constituency called "Shaftesbury and Warminster" which will merge half of the existing North Dorset seat with a chunk from a Wiltshire constituency. It will then become one of only two "cross-county boundary" constituencies in the UK (the other is Cornwall/Devon, I think, but I may be wrong). The concept is not popular locally. It means an MP representing a seat which would operate under two county councils, Police Commissioners, Local Enterprise Partnerships and health services, with potential conflicts of interest ....

Good to know it's not just us then, Kes and Ossie.

WM, I get the balancing up of numbers but there seems to be little regard for the realities of how people live their lives. As it stands, part of the actual city of Wakefield is in the Hemsworth constituency, which is nuts.
