A-weeping and a wailing in Deutschland

Because some lot called AfD have won some seats in the election there. From Sky news' hysterical reaction last night you would think that the Brownshirts had returned.

Merkel encouraged massive illegal immigration into Europe, now the right wing in Germany have got more votes. Who'd have thought it, eh?

She should have known better.
I'm surprised she got in this time.
Now she's got a hell of a job trying to get a working majority.
Serves her right.

It's a bit worse than just the wailing. AFD (Alternativ für Deutschland), is officially the third largest party in Germany and will pick up circa 80 seats.

For Germans that's pretty shocking. It means the mainstream parties have failed them so badly that ordinary Germans were forced to vote for something which is unacceptable to the general face of politics. This is a big step for Germany.

This also happened in Germany where the SD went from just under 3% of the vote, which did not get seats, to 5.6% of the vote then almost doubled again. ALL driven by immigration concerns and the government's reaction to their concerns.

What happened in Sweden was that the Government ignored the rise of SD and carried on with extensive immigration then making the non integration the fault of the Swede's.

As SD grew and became visible on the political scene in Government, their support grew. It's quite likely they will be the second largest party in Sweden. I can see the same thing happening in Germany. Where, once the dam is burst on intolerance, it becomes more and more acceptable to vote for extreme measures to resolve an extreme issue.

It is all extremely sad because we have seen this before in Europe. All that was needed was for the Governments to listen to the people.

They rarely do though Suff, do they?
Anyway, all Merkel has to do is to make all the 'migrants' aka illegal immigrants German citizens and bingo, she's got her votes back. Germany will be the worse for this though. A lot of those who have turned up don't have the skills for a modern workforce and they will have to be looked after by the state at great expense.

The upsurge of the Right is being painted as a disaster, shameful and anti-democratic, but is it?

For far too long speakers for the Right have been silenced, shouted down, isolated and censored by the self-elected "right (correct) thinking" majority from just right of centre to the far left.

The problem with that is that their ideas and ideology are never publicly debated leading to the recruitment if many who are extreme along with those who are only mildly supportive but who have been "branded" and made to feel unwelcome by traditional parties.

Democracy requires that all sides are heard, and heard by all sides. Opponents might not like what others are saying, but the best way to counter them is to lay open their ideas and offer alternatives. Thankfully the German and Swedish voting systems allow for this.

That sounds very much like someone a bit closer to home, doesn't it? ;)

I'm not surprised Merkel was punished in the ballots. She made a crass, totally misguided decision over the migration event, although it could be argued that to have done nothing would have created bedlam in south-eastern Europe, given the numbers fleeing the Syrian war. I wouldn't have voted for her; I'd have voted AfD, to be honest, in the same way that I've voted for UKIP over here. And interestingly, just like UKIP and the Front National, the AfD now seems to be imploding .....

Is that because they have beeen given the oxygen of publicity and it has proved toxic... as I was hinting at earlier?

More like they were given the toxicity of publicity and spin but are not organised enough to deal with it. Just as happened to the UKIP and just as happened to Trump after he won.

The migration crisis was bad enough, but Merkel agreed, with the EU leaders, to take a lead on immigration then use the powers of the EU to "redistribute" those immigrants after they had come into Germany.

Except that the obvious happened. Firstly that the second she announced she would take a million, 2 million tried to make it and Secondly that 75% of those "immigrants" were neither from war zones nor poverty, just opportunists with mobile phones and money enough to make the journey.

Germans are not stupid but they do carry a large amount of guilt over the concentration camps. However uncontrolled immigration will erase that guilt over the next generation. Merkel has not quite paid the price for her actions, yet, but it will come over the years as AFD grows and strengthens.

And the third obvious thing is that other countries were not consulted on this "redistribution" and some of them don't want it, especially seeing as many of these illegal immigrants are Muslim, and countries that historically suffered under the Ottoman empire do not want them in their country.

For countries like Poland, Hungary etc they are going to have to decide to either take the migrants or stop taking EU money, and leave the EU.
