I think those of us who remember how education and the workplace used to be can see how badly the current system is letting down the young people. Trying to shove all youngsters down an academic route, keeping them out of the workforce until they are in their twenties, and saddling them with huge debts. Then they get a massive reality check when the promised jobs are not available

A big YES from me for this. They are promised the world, and then they find out the world is very different in reality. It's almost like fraud.

Almost! It is definitely fraud, and it is perpetrated by government and educators, those who are supposed to have the best interests of their pupils at heart.

I have a conspiracy theory, but please bear with me. The idea of sending all but the dumbest to university created a vacuum in the skilled manual worker sectors. Those with degrees thought themselves above such work, but we still needed bodies to do them. Step forward the migrants, who are NOT to blame. They took up the jobs that needed to be done, and many have done them excellently.
