Neither have we Jo, we've got an oak-framed flame effect electric wall-mounted fire, just for a focal point. Our house is always warm, so different to our two previous Victorian houses

Sis and bil had no fireplaces so they built a false chimney breast with a radiator inside. The 'fireplace' then got the strangerst of things - an electric fire with living flame effect driven by steam!

It works even when not used to heat the room, but it does, somehow, make you feel warm.
