50% off, get yer cheap tat 'ere!

Sales, sales, sales, sales, sales! Does anybody pay face value any more?

We have pre-school sales, Black Friday, pre-Christmas sales, Boxing Day sales, New Year sales, Spring sales, Summer sales, closing down sales, new line sales.... we even now have pop-up sales where a shop has a sale because, well, because. DFS and Oak Furniture land have a sale ending this Sunday, every damned Sunday!

And so the news is that takings everywhere are down.

Step forward the retail experts. One group says it is because of Black Friday where another avows that it is because Thursday morning was damp and dismal. Boxing Day damp and dismal - yeah, that's a first!

I, on the other hand, have this totally mad but novel idea: We shoppers are all 'salesed up'! We have had enough and our purses are empty. It has taken some time but we have wised up to the scented candles that do not smell and the £2.50 T shirts that only last one wash. We have cottoned on to the con and are letting our purses and wallets do the talking.

The sales used to be just that - sales.
Now some of the are imo a bit of a con. Black Friday especially. Marketing gimmicks designed to try and shift stock rather than genuine sales.
I'll stay at home rather than bother with any of them.
