Just to add to that, the news coming out today is that the EU, in frustration at UK blocking over fishing and level playing field, decided to weaponise NI. Something everyone agreed not to do.

it is explicitly stated in the withdrawal agreement that there is nothing stopping the UK carrying out inter UK commerce with NI.

Except there is. Because the Withdrawal agreement states that NI has to follow EU rules until a trade agreement is done so that a border will not appear on the island. The EU decided to threaten the UK that unless UK goods were listed (food being one), then we would not be allowed to export them to NI. This was their attempt to force us onto their Level Playing Field, so that listing would be automatic.

The response is the UK internal markets bill where the UK decides what goods can be sold in the UK and what aid may be given within the UK.

When this is all settled and done, I suspect that the UK government will not take the lions share of the blame for this situation. No matter how much MP's and the press are fuming today.

I still think it has another purpose beyond the stated one. But we shall have to wait and see.
