Going into a war zone in the underdogs army is never a good idea unless you have an overriding reason.

The family links is interesting. Lots Polish and Ukrainian ex POWs from WW2 stayed behind, married or brought their families over; their children and grandchildren will have joined the armed forces.

I knew a few in the RAF.
