16yo to get vote

Postby TheOstrich » 17 Jul 2025, 13:44

Another screwball decision by the Government although I accept it was a manifesto pledge.
16yo by and large have no proper lifestyle experience, will be over susceptible to social media and will probably tilt to fringe parties anyway. Just what is the point?

They already have the vote in Scottish elections as they are legal adults. This should not happen before they are legal adults so the two should go together.

I agree Kaz.
The human brain does not fully develop until the age of 25, the voting age should be 21 minimum.
16 year olds do not have enough experience of life in general and work in particular to be voting.
They are too young to have half of cider but old enough to vote?

Unless they have a job offer or an apprenticeship 16-19 year olds have to remain in education Similarly child maintenance can be up to 20 years of age.

I agree, emotional stability is low at that age. But it is the law in Scotland and whilst it produces a fair number of mistakes they do live with it.
