I read with dismay the ordeals that those would be in the SASnd the deaths that were as a result of the almost inhumane trials these young men went through.

My brother qualified for the regiment in the 1950's under Drummond, after he came out of Barnado's and was put into the boys navy..
He was not happy as his dream was always to join the SAS.. He related a little of his career or his active duty, we knew however that he served in Tragino, Muscat, probably one and the same!! The Oman, Malaysia and British Gianna . (spelt incorrectly)
When Drummond retired the SAS changed according to my brother and many of the regiment were disillusioned. (he was no stranger to Colchester
He spoke of the horrific exhausting trials they had to complete in the Brecon Beacons, that at the finish they did so by the few survivors crawling on hands and knees to complete the trial.. . But he got through and proudly wore his red beret
Terrible that these lads have to die in the process as well as on the battle field.
Today sadly our lads and lassies are no more than gun fodder, I am sure that half of them don't even know what they are fighting for..
Look at the shocking results following B'Liar going into Iraq under false pretences for OIL Destroying a nation and reaping rewards by the hour..
leaving the country in despair.. As my brother said had the SAS been sent in they could have got Saddam out within a matter of days, instead B'Liar has created misery and the destruction of a nation.

Shocking as it may seem Kate, the sad truth is that if these people had been driven to an easier selection, they would then have died in the field under battle conditions. But they would have taken other, more capable, SAS troopers with them.

Personally, from my observation in the Army, once the press gets involved in the training process, then training becomes less rigorous and general levels of fitness and preparedness in the Army overall drops. However the standards of SAS have not dropped.

Therefore people who should be supremely fit and are then taken to the ultimate in endurance, start dying. Because they were not supremely fit in the first place, as they might have been before. The base assumption for starting selection was incorrect. They were not working with the best of the rest, they were working with less.

It is my contention that it is the press, who by interfering with Army training standards, have caused these deaths. Now they are going to intervene in the SAS selection (or try). The only possible result can be a weakened SAS. More people dying.

That is my take. I know it won’t be a popular one but then it’s not a civilian view. I lived and worked in the Army through the training depot “Expose’s”. I saw the drop in standards over only 7 years. I trained and worked with people who were trying for “Selection”.

There is a simple point here. If you are not willing to lay your life down in the armed services, then you have no place there. The fact that this life may be taken in training seems to escape most people now. Training should be harder than battle. That way you stand some chance of the troops winning and coming home. British forces don’t fight battles to lose.

Sadly I fell asleep five minutes into the programme last night regarding tragic suicides of ex military personnel and lack of care.. We know the army has not been up to standard as far as weapons are concerned in Iraq or Afghanistan, to the point of suitable clothing, the contractor to supply being a friend of B'Liar sub contracted the uniforms to a sub standard Chinese company, for our boys and girls to have the security of knowing that they will be cared for should they be injured is imperative.. And there are hundreds of amputees and those with mental problems who are not cared for.. families have to leave their properties with no assurance of alternative . Things aint what they used to be!!
