Ooops, that was not supposed to happen. The très câlin but gauchiste socialiste M. Hollande wasn't to lose power to the centre right UMP, or the Front Nationale (FN): non, non, non.

Come May the FN is expected to do a UKIP and wipe the floor with the traditional main parties. The Dutch the Danes and possibly the Swedes could go the same way, and there are rumblings in Germany, Poland, Italy and Spain, even when set against draconian laws to silence the (Far) Right.

Could this be the start of a movement by the people(s) to take Europe back from the "technocrats" in governments, or at least to make them listen?

We can but hope.

We may have embardeed the droite - but not the far droite. I thought opinion was that the FN did not do as well as expected in the second round of voting. So put your guillotine away, don't expect an uprising of the Third Estate any time soon ..... regrettably!
