The Tories are holding an open primaryin a public meeting.

Interestingly a couple of the new women candidates were selected by open primary but by postal vote.

I'm sure this is so the Tories get around the feeling that candidates are not those chosen by the people. But, then again, it's a bit like the old soviet. You can vote but only for those we have selected for you. Granted the Tory select committee has to do due diligence on their candidates, but, still, the people are choosing from a short list. What if you don't like any of them???

Open primaries are a bit of a step too far the other way from parachutes for my liking. I don't see what political activists (they are the ones who will sign) from other parties have to do with the selection of, say, a Tory candidate, or vice-versa.

I am happy for local party committees to interview potential candidates and then put forward a range of them for local members to chose the one.

They are running scared and ticking all the boxes.

They don't realise that listening and acting on what they hear is worth a thousand box ticks.... Typical of politics today.
