This is true. 300 million guns in private hands, wasn't that the figure mentioned? Maybe the genie is out of the bottle. In the US they have street gangs who are routinely armed with handguns, some have assault rifles. They won't be handing them in anytime soon. Given that Joe Ordinary won't either.

More than 3 guns per person is heading on for 1m guns.

The second you try draconian gun laws, these weapons will go straight onto the black market and into the hands of the criminals...
