If you ever visit Teeside you would see the dereliction and the skeletons of the old heavy industry factories that once thrived there, so that might be one reason. Another might be that one in 11 of those of working age is out of work and / or on benefits.

And you desperately want to own a terraced house with no garden, single glazing and no EV charge point.

I bought my first house in 1960. Cost £3000 for a semi with a front and back garden and a garage at the end of the garden.
Have moved twice since then. Bought this house in 1964 fo just over £3000. Have built a garage at the side and extended the kitchen. Two houses in the Crescent
have been sold this year for over £175000.
I can remember when mortgage interest rates were 10%. I was fortunate as mine was fixed at 3%.

We rented a flat when we married in 1964
Over the years we eventually moved into council house always paid full rent
Since bill died 12years ago I got some housings benefit and I'm still paying I dread to think how much iv paid
Did have chance to buy but B had no intention of buying wish now we had

I'm glad I helped both boys to buy their homes tho
