There's no point in either "side" re-hashing old arguments or fighting old battles, crowing about victory or bemoaning defeat.
The world has moved on, not least with the pandemic, and, quite simply, it is what it is.

Personally, I do not care if this country is "successful" or not. I don't even know how one might begin to define successful. And I don't give a parrot's pullover about international standing.
There is far too much wrong with our society internally - and there has been for years. Correcting this, from grass-roots upwards, surely should be our over-riding priority.

Agree and disagree. If our international standing falls and our economy suffers as a result, the ability to "correct" the ills of the country could be constrained due to lack of available funds.

In politics, as in economies, nothing is solved with a radical knee jerk response. We just create a whole new problem which has the potential to be worse than the original.

Hence Perception is everything and part of the point of my original post.
