Shell, everything I have read points to a few things. If you do not have a meter your bill is based on the rateable value of your home dictated by your local Valuation Office Agency (VOA), and there is also a general rule of thumb: if there are more bedrooms than people a water meter should be cheaper.

Your cost does seem quite high. though, and, being a Yorkshireman, I would be tempted to check again.

We have 2 baths a day and 2 showers. The washing machine is on most days, as is the dishwasher. I also fill the sink with water every morning and leave all the breakfast things to soak In the summer I water the garden most nights

So when I did my online assessment it came back saying I was better as I was

Baths per week - 14... 1 each per day
Showers per week - 14... 1 each per day
Washing machine per week - 4 or 5 per week
Dishwasher per week - 7... a load every day
Garden hose pipe per week in summer - 4... every other day

Total = £732. I few tweaks without affecting your personal hygiene and it comes down below £700.

But, hey, it's your water, your choice.

Mm if you have two baths and two showers I would say don't have a meter
I remember my eldest never had a water meter till his children s left home very wise decision until they moved back after uni

Water in the UK is damned expensive.

I checked that Anglian checker. We don't have baths, just showers, user the washing machine about 3 times a week and use the well to water the garden. We use the dishwasher daily.

With that it told me it was ~£450 and around 90m3.

I drain and fill my pool most years. It's 45m3. Plus our normal water usage. In a conversation with someone a few years back I was told filling the pool was around €75. I don't know our bill but I'll have to go and look.

However if that estimate of €75 is correct, then our normal water would be around €200 per year. Plus standing charge of course.

BTW we have 5 bathrooms and 2 toilets. We pay Significantly for them on rates.

Came home this evening to discover the hose in the garden had frozen and burst. Huge great fountain in the middle of the borders. Boy am I glad I dont have a meter
