According to Cameron, it's "Freedom, tolerance and respect for the rule of law and UK institutions"

Which leads me to observe that to receive respect, you have to deserve it - and I am not sure that, at the moment, either the rule of law in this country or its institutions do deserve it ......

Good point Os.
I feel that after decades all parties banging the drum about how our differences made us stronger, they now seem to be insisting on shared common values.
Which is contradictory.
Some of the differences between cultures can't be bridged; and imo it's rather late in the day to be trying.

If religion is to be taught in schools, and I think it should be, it should be taught in an academic way; comparing an contrasting one against another; looking for similarities and differences. It should be taught along the lines of philosophy or political science - neutral - except where a particular religion's practices are counter to our culture. At such times they should be criticised.

What should not happen is that one religion dominates and is taught as being The One and better than all the rest.

As for respecting our laws and institutions, I would, if they were fair and applied to all of us equally without fear or favour. Until that happens I will despise many of them.
