It's funny how things go isn't it... Scotland has a national anthem which is not played at Scottish matches or at British matches. England, as the senior partner, has the British anthem, which is used as a National anthem, but now that other teams in the Union are not singing the British anthem someone wants a non British one for England....
The National Anthem is a statement of pride and unity. It is played when British teams complete/win for British events. However when individual teams play at non British events, they use whatever they want.
For non British events play the National anthem or play Video Killed the Radio Stars by the Buggles, I don't care. But at British events, play the National Anthem...
