I do not think Kate is saying that she respects Trump.

When she says "I have found the whole business with respect to Trump absolutely shocking" she means with regard to the protests and the behaviour of protesters, and they did behave appallingly. She also goes on to criticise Trump for playing both ends against the middle, which he does all the time.

I took it that she did not want him here in the UK nor anywhere near the Queen.

The Americans have a system of politics where many of their politicians are up for elections every two years. The entire house of representatives and 1/3 of the Senate. Then the President every 4 years.

It means that the public get a chance to severely rebuke the president and his/her some day, party.

It is not like the UK where you are now stuck with the entire parliament for 5 years.

The first of these elections is in November and carries infinitely more weight than these Infantile demonstrations.

The more childish the people of the UK are, the more NATO members bluster over paying into defence, the more likely ordinary Americans will vote more power to Trump in November.

These demonstrators may act like they know everything in an outpouring of self satisfied ignorance, but how it plays in the US press right now is what matters.

They are so blinded by their own self righteousness that they don't even realise what they have done in insulting the office of the President of the United States in this way. Which is about as much as I expect of them anyway.
