Ped, imagine that you had never been taught to read, and then someone gives you a book....

You might be able to hold an intelligent conversation and comprehend what is being said to you, but Aa Bb Cc might as well be meaningless pictures or scribbles, that is where a lot of my computer group are at. They know what computers are, and some of what they can do, but until their latter years they had never used one.

Ped, my father in law reached pensionable age without having written a cheque. It all depends on how you live your life and what opportunities there are in life.

I still remember my first foray into computers with a command line interface which said Syntax Error every time I typed anything. Lots of learning involved.

Contrast today where most of the thinking is done for you and, yes, computer literacy should not be so difficult. But, again, it depends on opportunities and priorities.

Also, not everyone cares to....

Ah, Suff the Syntax such horrid memories and Peek and Poke too. Whatever did they do? Sure though that most people are either curious or just want to watch porn and have a go sooner or later. :) Have a couple of friends though who were very anti but one has just succumbed having inherited her daughter`s and has expressed surprise at how easy it is.

Is all I have to say

To Frank though, I am so pleased there are people like you willing to share their knowledge and help people to improve their lot in life, make friends and find a hobby

Alright, enough already. Oi goloy, I only started at it because I was bored, but having been a teacher and a Tech trainer it is in my blood, a bit. It is not for everyone, and being able to pick the stuff up at the drop of a hat is not in the ken of everyone either.

I once tried golf. I had seen it on the TV and it looked easy, didn't need much kit, and the rules were simple. After wrenching my elbows and wrists on more than one occasion 'Divot Meister El Supremo' gave up. No amount of training could get me to hit that little ball. The safest place to be when I was trying to was the was the place I intended the ball to go, anywhere else was life threatening.
