Talk about a mountain out of a molehill.

How much influence does £3 million over four years buy when the licence fee brings in £3.75 billion every year?

I was referring more to the €140m in loans of which €30m were outstanding at the time of the article.

When the license brings in so many billions I would like to know, firstly, why it was necessary to borrow that money and secondly, how this impacts their objectivity....

Businesses, even very profitable ones, take on loans. £141 million over 14 years, an average of just over £10 million a year is no big deal. It was not borrowed by the BBC, as such, it was borrowed by the split-off BBC Worldwide and at the best commercial rates available at the time. Sounds like good business practice to me.

Influence over the BBC = 0: See Gavin Hastings, Katya Adler and Laura Kuenssberg for details.
