Yes it comes as a shock when you realise how little cover there is, or even interest.
Back in 2002 when my laptop was stolen in slough, I called the police. They asked me if there were any witnesses and then I was transferred to a voice mailbox. I left my details and they called back the next day with an insurance claim number. End of interest.
I found out later that there were up to 30 laptops a month being stolen, some off the shoulder of people walking in Slough. The money being generated from this was funding a gang and drugs culture.
The Police? No interest.
#1 son tells me the criminals know exactly who is on what beat and when they go on and off shift. They know which stations are manned 24x7 and they know the patrol times. Burglaries have gone up significantly and successful burglaries have gone up even more. As far as I can tell, this is used as a justification by the police for more staff and funding. They have no interest in fixing the problem so long as the government wants to cut their funding and staff.
Service with a grimace!

I think the police in this country are in need of a good shake-up.
Maybe they need more officers, as it is obvious that they are not
able to deal with crime with their present numbers. We have now
become a nation of criminals.
