Why were they not returned to France? All this does is tell the illegals and the smugglers that they only need to get them half way, or even near half way and they're home free, in the UK and not being pushed back over the border.

When do we see our poor politicians throwing up their hands and saying "Well what could we do they were drowning".?

Then answer is simple. Take them back to France and dump them on the shore, where they are safe, in a 1st world country and have full support services available to them; if they would just ask.

So, all the fear mongering about leaving the EU will mean all those immigrants are coming over is for nothing. They're coming over anyway, by any means, not matter what the risk to them and their children.

Only yesterday the former First Sea Lord, Admiral Lord West, wanted a blockade of the Libyan coast. He said it would only take ten vessels of various types.

He is now probably thinking the blockade should be in the Channel.

The former first sea lord is firmly fixed in sensible actions to stop illegal movement of people and to protect our borders.

Our government, on the other hand, is firmly fixed in politics....

Maybe that's why, as ex-servicemen, we view this illegal migrant problem differently form other people.

Getting serious, Europeans are going to have to harden their hearts. There are an awful lot of people (and more being born every minute) who live in desperately poor countries with very little prospects. They want to come to where there is more money - Europe. There are far more who want to come than we can accommodate, even should we wish to accommodate them - and I don't! Any phone call from a migrant boat saying "We're sinking!" should be met with a reply of "Oh dear, how sad, never mind".

Europe's borders will have to be protected with force, people smugglers should be given life sentences and illegal immigrants should be chucked in jail and fed on bread and water 'til they agree to go home.

And we now find that those 18, poor deprived, war torn, desperate, people who damned nearly died in the channel came from....

Albania.

The press should be shouting for them to be ejected back to Albania immediately and for the Brits to be thrown in jail till they rot....
