HS2 and planning incompetence.

Will this damned thing aver be built?

The plan was for the line to go to Meadowhall to serve the Sheffield region of South Yorkshire. Now there is going to be a spur, using existing track, into Sheffield city centre. Is it a terminus? If it is then there will be fewer trains using the whole of the line. If it isn't and trains have to go into Sheffield and then back out to join the real HS2 line where are the time benefits?

These planners need sacking. St Columba's Primary year 2 pupils could do a better job.

My fervent hope it that the whole damn HS2 thing will now be scrapped in the light of Brexit. Along with Hinkley Point C. My views are probably controversial, but IMO the less foreign investment in our country, Chinese or French, the better ....

Scrapping HS2 would do me.

Some of the money could be spent on upgrading the already fast enough existing lines and rolling stock, and the rest is urgently needed elsewhere.

My 2p's worth.

Nothing is going to be helped by Government focus issues.

I doubt it will be dropped but it will probably take another decade....

It gets worse.

If the new plan goes ahead a new estate will have to be demolished. Some of the houses are already occupied and some are still being built! What sort of compensation are the owners, developers and builders going to get?

Arranging a function to imbibe huge quanitties of alcohol in a brewery, allied to inability, comes to mind.....

That would be the one in Mexborough? The planners probably didn't even realise it was there, as it is still being built. The HS2 line was going to run within 200m of my doorstep - in Mexborough it sounds like it will be straight through the middle of somebody's doorstep!

I don't think it will ever get built, tbh.

When one looks at the railway in other countries on the telly, it certainly makes
me think that perhaps it is about time we improved our Victorian railway system.

Don't believe everything you see on the TV. The TGV service is, in most ways, inferior to the UK rail services; if faster, I suffer a lot from delays and cancelled services.

The TV only gives you the good. The bad and the ugly is always glossed over...
