America to bomb Libya

We had problems when we lived and worked in Sirte, I cannot think the Americans can solve the problems there. I remember B' liars hypocritical kiss on Gadaffi's cheek.. the country has fallen to pieces like the rest of the Middle East.

I cannot think of any answer to this problem, Kate.

I have an awful feeling that there is going to be another World war before long.

The future certainly doesn't seem very bright.

These attacks have been going on sporadically since 2011 and the fall of Ghadaffi, and not only by the US. I am not sure how this will end and I am wondering if the terrorists are dumb or playing a clever game.

Libya is the size of Germany, France and Italy put together, but only has a population of 7 million. 90% of the population lives in less than 10% of the land area, mostly on the Mediterranean coast. The rest are mainly in the oilfields. The land borders, especially to the south and east, are porous.

Are the terrorists in Sirte a cover/decoy for other operations (training) in remote areas, which are bigger than Iraq and Syria combined? If they are, and their virus bleeds into the whole of the Sahel, it will take the might of NATO with the Russians to contain it.

Another World War - probably.

It just goes to show that a knee jerk reaction instead of steady policy for stability in the region simply produces more extremism and more violence..

Too late now, the knee-jerk was done five years ago.

Time to dig a bunker.

I'm more concerned about North Korea. He's totally barking, has been running a nuclear programme which is a bit like a blind man trying to clear a minefield but will work, in the end, through sheer stubborn determination and he's doing the same with space capable rockets which can reach any point on the planet's surface in reentry (once he manages to get the things to work properly).

Yes these Islamic nutters are dangerous, but hardly WW3 category. Kim Jong whatsit on the other hand is a very different kettle of fish.

Between Russia, Syria, Iraq, Korea , Afghanistan, Libya and all the rest fighting "for God knows what" I am terrified for our young ones, we see the utter misery and horror of little ones suffering, abandoned, like Aggers prediction and others I believe we are on the brink and have been saying so since the fool of a man Blair destroyed the Iraqi nation and it's people, and as predicted by a dear close Muslim friend in the year 2,000 we will as will other nations suffer the consequences as we are witnessing. At the age of 83 my life is almost over, but I agonise for the future of the little ones and the younger generation, thrown into war that we are not prepared for.

Kate, there are former diplomats and military who believe that WW3 has already started, but is still in the skirmish stages.

There is little doubt that one day it will turn into a full-blown war, and as Suff points out, there is Kim just itching to get in on the act. Recently N. Korea has fired missiles 1,500km into space and one 1,000 km into the Sea of Japan. Kim is getting near to ballistic capability, all he needs now is a warhead.

Are we as a country sufficiently armed to go to war Frank? military reduced by thousands, weapons, "what weapons"? A country full of
Agitators, "The enemy within." I think our supposed politicians are complacent
the majority not even born to have witnessed the last war that we went through. As for North Korea Suff the mind boggles, the sheer discipline and numbers of the military, plus the war heads etc frightening, we will not stand a chance should we be invaded, and we
certainly could no depend on other countries coming to our aid, remembering we were on our own as far as the Yanks were concerned until Pearl Harbour was attacked by the Japanese in the last war.Frightening Times.

I think that if inhabitants of another planet were taking note of what was going on in Planet Earth,
they would come to the conclusion that its inhabitants were heading for "a war to end all wars".
The only thing that would prevent it would be some cataclysmic cosmic event that would almost
end human life, similar to that which some people suggest once happened here some thousands
of years ago. Then mankind could start the long process of technical evolution all over again.

That's how I see things. Am I pessimistic? Yes, I am.
